Online dating without handing over your phone number
You matched on a dating app and want to move off it — chat freely, hear their voice, maybe a video call — before you trust someone with your real phone number. But switching to a regular messenger means giving out a number tied to your name and your other chats, and one that’s hard to take back.
How it usually goes
Most people share their number too early. If the spark fades — or the person turns pushy or creepy — that number is already out: they can call from another SIM, look you up, or pass it on. Blocking one number doesn’t undo that.
